The Crimson Guard was named in 2009 by a student body vote. The Crimson Guard is now an official student organization. The vision of the Crimson Guard is stated below.

Our student section right now is not realizing its full potential. Students are showing up late or not at all. Students are acting inappropriately and disturbingly to other fans. But the main problem with our student section is that we are not nearly as intimidating as we could be. We believe the solution to this problem is some student leadership.

We have a vision for the Crimson Guard Student section. We believe that the student section must become a student organization with leadership like many other universities have already accomplished. From there unity can be created. Road trips to away games can be planned. White outs and stripe outs can be organized. Students can be urged to show up on time and students can learn what is expected of them.

Since Indiana has the largest student section in the Big Ten this is no easy task, but something must be done. The largest student section should undoubtedly be the toughest place to play bar none.
